The Men in My House-Not All Men
This poem has been written from the perspective of a girl who lives in a toxic environment, which prioritises men over women. She simply expresses her agony in this poem, and wants to triumph over this discrimination.
The Men in My House
The men in my house,
Are considered as heroes.
They are superior to us;
And shall not be treated less than God.
The men in my house,
Order their wives,
They suppress them...
To show off their masculinity.
The men in my house,
Don’t eat their wives’ earnings
But are generous enough to accept dowry.
Because they’re accepting someone else’s daughters.
The men in my house
Didn’t cry when their mother died.
Because, they say, they’re strong.
They’re not those melodramatic women.
The men in my house
Teach their sons, to rule over women.
And bring wives, who won’t speak back to them...
They ask their sons not to hide behind their wives’ ‘pallus’.
The men in my house,
Look for rich men, to wed their daughters.
Son-in-laws, to take care, of their weak daughters.
Who in return will mop and sweep their floors.
The men in my house,
Include the slangs of their mothers’ and sisters’ in every argument,
And don’t even think once
Before assassinating their characters.
The men in my house
Are brought up to be beasts
They’re asked to act toxic, egoistic,
To act as ‘males’
And rule over women to showcase their masculinity.
-Vedanshi
But when she looks out in the evolved world and realises that this system has been long forgotten by people, she develops another point of view. She, now focuses on the brighter side of the story and..
Not All Men
Not all men are a phase of patriarchy,
Some do percieve our demands
And never hesitate to be called as a believer of feminism.
Not all men are antiquated,
Many do not consider the association of the number of giggles of a women with her character.
Not all men are disenchanted,
Few do not excuse to apprehend the shortness of a women's garms as an affirmative reply to their filthy intends.
Not all men are dogs,
Several of them do keenly want to solve the reason of our sobs.

The men in my house are taught to be men in the most barbaric way ever. The men in my house are taught to make all the decisions without consulting the women of my house, since they are 'mentally stronger'. The men in my house....
ReplyDeleteVedanshi! I am so so so proud of you. You have tackled an important topic in the most beautiful, blunt and straight way ever. And the men in my house need to learn...the sooner the better!
Moksha! Not everybody, especially in this age sees this side of the story. Girl, you have wonderfully penned and eye opener. And definitely not all men are monsters, humanity is still a part of them...(still)
Girls, reading this piece made my day. The way both of you have shown the two sides of the same coin compels one to stop and think. Proud proud!
Well said Advika! Thank you. -Vedanshi and Mokshaππ»π₯°
DeleteSo nicely written and it's seriously the best poem I've ever seen! Those men who understands the importance of women rights and fight for their equality are the best men one could ever have. Both the poems are the best! ❤π―
