A Happily Ever After

Image
Standing by the staircase, In a nitid watery gown Left my glass shoe behind While hastily walking down. My bare foot touched the ground Of the 'Once upon a time' land, How did I get here? Did a fairy godmother grab my hand? Gaining my senses back I turn to look behind There's certainly no prince; astonished Who'd send his men tomorrow, for his princess to find. Shutting down the fantasy The reality simpers and breaks into laughter "You'll always be a fanatic..." Taking away my non existant 'Happily ever after...' -Vedanshi Shah

October

October is my favourite season! And my favourite colour... Anyone can love summers, winters or monsoons. Anyone can love pink, purple or orange. But it takes a vulnerable heart to love an unknown season, an unnamed festival, and an unpredictable feeling. With clear yet colorful skies October adds life to us. October for me, brings love, calmness, peace, youth, beauty, along with every indescribable ache a heart can carry... October marks the partial beginning of chilly winter days. It lightens up the pathway to a new horizon, the one we've never known of, the one we've never seen. It colors the sky, and it paints the trees in gold. It comes with light breezes and pricking sunshine. It soothes the soul and gives birth to those sensations we weren't aware of. The beautiful roads, with dried off leaves make the walk to the new horizon a little more frisky. The vibrancy in the atmosphere is unavoidable and makes us explore more of ourselves. The meadows are almost yellow,...

Fear Of Missing Out

Image
" I like the feeling of being awake, when no else is."    -Theodore Finch (All the Bright Places)  I toss and turn in my bed as I'm unable to sleep. I stand up and open the shutters, letting some air in, to accompany my sleeplessness. The cool breeze brings with it the dampness of the atmosphere and pats my face and goes back... I look outside and the lights from the partially busy roads prickle my eyes. I stare at the ceiling for a while, thinking about nothing. It is plain and dark, and barely visible. I blink my eyes again and again, trying to play with the darkness inside my room. But, after a few moments as if it understands my playfulness, it snatches away the fun. I pull my blanket over my face trying to trap the darkness inside, but it's suffocating and I start missing the soft touch of the breeze. I take the blanket off and think of something else to pass my time with. And it suddenly hits my mind, that I've been ignoring one thing that I'm unabl...

Divergent Skies over a Parallel Ground

She swept the floor as I picked up my school bag and kept it on my desk. She swiftly moved ahead with a wearisome look on her face. I pulled my chair and sat down, resting my hands on my desk. "How old are you?" I finally broke the ice. "I'm four months younger than you, and turned 16 this year" she said. I was amazed when I heard it... she was just 16, and so was I... She came to my house daily, and performed those same household chores. She scratched the same floor and did the same dishes everyday. She did those things as if she was made for it... While, I sat in my room and attended my online lectures, gaining knowledge about the world. I looked out of the window and imagined an open sky for myself. If she would've been gazing at this same sky, more or less it'd be a burden for her... I remember her talking about her husband once... yes, her 'husband'. "I don't even remember when I got married, though my husband does, we talk ov...

A lesson from the school called LIFE

" When you judge someone, you don't define them, you define yourself."     -Unknown What would people think about me? What would they say? Aren't we all confined inside the boundaries of people's opinions about us? Every step we take in our lives is affected by people's views about us. Their judgements and their critical thoughts always run in our minds. Our life choices, reflect these opinions and restrict us from following our heart. But, are we really answerable to them, about our life and about our wishes? No. We are never answerable to anyone for how we want to live our life. We let ourselves down when we justify our decisions. Every time we provide them a reason, we doubt our own self. By giving them what they want, we continue disappointing ourselves. When we don't speak up, when we don't stand up, we betray ourselves. We give them a chance to question us and pull us down. The choices we make and the kind of life we live is wholly virtuo...

Freedom

" Every loss is unprecedented . You can't ever know someone else's hurt, not really — just like touching someone else's body isn't the same as having someone else's body." -John Green, Turtles All the Way Down  Death is an escape...it is the ultimate freedom of the soul, from the body. It brings both liberation and pain. The soul of the dead flies away, locking those left behind, in the cage of despair and sorrow. Losing a loved one is certainly heartbreaking. The scars of this loss do not heal easily. They leave their marks on the heart. At times, after one loses their beloved, their life seems meaningless to them. They find it hard to find the same warmth, love and affection. But, death sets them free, those who are suffering. It liberates them from the burdens of life. It makes the soul happier, giving them an open sky to wander...  Freedom Horizon is just an imaginary line, In the other word I hope you're fine. In this moment Is the epip...

Homecoming

"Don't tell me where to go, I know this place. It's HOME." I heard the lyrics of a song go and I wrote this piece 'HOMECOMING' Taran rung the doorbell as he adjusted his shirt and ran his fingers through his hair. To his surprise the doorbell was working... His heart pounded faster, every second. He wasn't nervous. After all, it was his own house that he was coming to... His mother opened the door and a smile struck her face as soon as she saw him. Her only son, her boy-Taran was standing at the door. She opened her arms and embraced him in her hug. She gave a comforting pat on his back and pecked a little kiss on his forehead. "Taran, beta... how was your flight? Did you eat anything?" she asked him. "Yes mumma, I did", he answered with a smile...he knew this would be her opening question. And as he said this, he noticed that wrinkles had caught his mother's face... He picked his bag up and walked inside. He took a stroll th...

Social Acceptance or Individual Acceptance

"Social acceptance  can be defined as the fact that most people, in order to fit in with others, attempt to look and act like them." Every individual has his/her own special qualities. The qualities that make them different from others. Their emotions, perspectives, reactions, choices etc. differ from others. But, are all those differences accepted by the so called ‘society’? The answer is NO. How often have we tried to change ourselves so that we can fit in the picture! In order to be accepted and noticed, we’ve altered our traits, totally unaware of the fact that these inherent traits make us stand out from others. People have their own fixed definitions and examples of fitting into certain categories. For instance, only ‘beautiful’ and ‘attractive’ people appeal one’s eyes, only ‘polite’ individuals are kind hearted, only ‘extroverts’ have emotions and opinions, only ‘elders’ are wise and what not. And everyday, we try so hard to fit into their instances. We cover our...

The Men in My House-Not All Men

Image
This poem has been written from the perspective of a girl who lives in a toxic environment, which prioritises men over women. She simply expresses her agony in this poem, and wants to triumph over this discrimination. The Men in My House The men in my house, Are considered as heroes. They are superior to us; And shall not be treated less than God. The men in my house, Order their wives, They suppress them... To show off their masculinity. The men in my house, Don’t eat their wives’ earnings But are generous enough to accept dowry. Because they’re accepting someone else’s daughters. The men in my house Didn’t cry when their mother died. Because, they say, they’re strong. They’re not those melodramatic women. The men in my house Teach their sons, to rule over women. And bring wives, who won’t speak back to them... They ask their sons not to hide behind their wives’ ‘pallus’. The men in my house, Look for rich men, to wed their daughters. Son-in-laws, to ta...

The Forgotten Memento

There are so many things in life, that we leave behind us and forget about them. There are certain chapters of our or our loved one's life that we want to witness and open those abandoned doors of memories again... The Forgotten Memento Last night, I found the keys, To the abandoned almirah... I spared no moment And unlocked that rusty piece of iron. The door opened with an icing of dust. I gave myself a minute to adapt, Before I started exploring The inside of that mystery. Out of all beautiful oldies, The cardboard box on the uppermost shelf captured my attention. It was a little-out of my reach. I stood on my tiptoes and pulled that box out. The box fell on the floor, Scattering all the scrap outside. I sat down and patted on a brown scrapbook, clearing the dust away. On opening it, I found, on the first page, a picture. It didn't even take me a moment more To realise, it was my mother. A smile struck the corner of my lips As I saw that little gir...

Sanitizing Our Minds

Trapped inside our minds and houses, We try to shut all the existing doors. Attempting to even stay away from ourselves... We arrest our affirmative sides. And as we take a moment, We realise- what we need to do first is to                                                         Sanitize Our Minds  A pandemic is defined as “an epidemic occurring over a very wide area, crossing international boundaries, and usually affecting a large number of people.” Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that cause disease in animals. Seven, including the new virus, have made the jump to humans. The very first case of Coronavirus or Covid-19, as we know was detected in Wuhan, China. After the sudden outbreak of Covid-19 in about 186 countries, it feels like life has come to a pause. The scientists have classified this virus into two strains, one more...

Reflection of Perfection

Kiara looked outside the glass door and saw a tall, fair girl approaching towards her cabin. The girl knocked at her door and sought her permission to enter. Reluctantly, Kiara let her inside her posh cabin. As she walked towards Kiara, her heels made a significant sound justifying her perfect walk. She came and gave a wide smile to Kiara and said, “Hello! I’m Fiona. I’ve been appointed as the new social media manager of the company.” Kiara replied, “Hello! I’m Kiara. You’ll be working under my guidance... you shall coordinate with me regarding any doubts.” Without exchanging anymore pleasantries she cut short the conversation and went back to her work.  Kiara had this weird feeling inside her...she already disliked Fiona’s arrival. The first time she saw her entering the office, she was agitated by a thought as to how perfect and fair she was. She put her hand inside her purse and pulled out her phone. She opened the camera and looked at herself...the same dark skin, with sho...

Untangled to Entangled Education

"Education should cater to the uniqueness of every child.” ‘Education- an enlightening experience’. That’s what education is... Education was meant to enlighten our lives and personalities. Enlightenment since ages has personified happiness of the soul, of the inner self. But are we actually enlightened...? Are we really happy in the current education scenario...? Being a student and going through this phase of exams, I’ve come across many personalities who are unable to cope up with this stress and enter into the state of distress. Everyone wants everything. However, it is an illusionary thought process. The ever growing population has led to depletion of resources where a single opportunity is chased by at least a million people at one go which ultimately leads to disturbance in the demand supply equilibrium. Aspirations of people are increasing by leaps and bounds which further boosts the urge of a human being to acquire infinity. Education has solely become a medium of ob...

The War Inside

“Every person we meet is fighting a war,                                             with their ownself” She sat on the cold floor of her room, with a cold heart but a fire of questions was burning inside her that were playing games amongst themselves. She tried to figure out her mistakes. But, as an adolescent of 16 she didn’t find any. They say that teenage is a stage of life where people expect you to behave like an adult but treat you as child. All such thoughts started flowing  in her mind along with a flow of tears from her eyes. Despite those muses Rhea tried to gather up herself. She, perceived herself, just as the masses around her thought of her...a timid being who was not equipped to raise her voice. She had made an abode in the silence and she resided ...

Weight of Adversity

“We don’t meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our paths for a reason.” December 2018         It was a chilly winter evening. C.G Road was flooded with vehicles. With people moving around for shopping, hawkers wrapping up their stalls, others setting them up, the road was lively... I was in my car with my parents and my younger sister. It was cold but the thought of an ice-cream on that crisp evening was irresistible. I was in my usual jocund mood as we stepped out of the car. I had seen beggars, poor people selling little stuffs, toys, earning for a living. I felt bad for them, hurt sometimes. Seeing those helpless bodies, shattered my heart. But that evening, after what I saw, I felt strange and agonised deep inside. An old lady, nearly 60-65 in age, wearing a simple saree, a sweater and a scarf(as it was winter) was walking slowly. She was slightly bent. It was not the normal elderly bend that she possessed. Maybe it was the result of several ...

Call me a girl

•Call me A girl• You want my walk to be narrow Just like your mind So that you can call me a girl. You expect manner in my words That you don't find in yours So that you can call me a girl. You want me to be covered in clothes But you don't hesitate to think of me without them, even once You want me to accept your judgements And consider myself a toy with no sentiments. You want me to adjust and sacrifice So that you can call me a girl. Your ego shrinks whenever I rise higher than you You want me to seek your permission for whatever I do You want my hue to be fair And in my eyes you always expect care So that you can call me a girl. Now, I'll just proclaim to you I possess a voice louder than yours A heart pure than yours I can roar like a lioness On your slightest endeavour to subdue me And snatch my share of happiness If ever you try to manipulate my emotional fortitude And attempt cracking me in miniscule pieces Beware, I can stand staunch ...

HER

•Her• There’s something about her Her gait, her eyes Her hair, her spontaneous smiles Her beauty, her soul. How perfectly her curves flaunt when she walks And as she swiftly moves, even the deer gawks. Flowers bloom as her feet touch the ground She approaches towards you and leaves you spell bound. The way she smiles And hides her pain under those lies. Those dimples on her cheeks capture your heart One look at her pure smile and you know she’s some sort of art. She has those oceanic eyes They’re deep and remind you of the skies. The loose strands of her hair caress her face And they dance as they follow the wind’s pace. Her soothing scent lingers around your nose It wants you to cherish those moments when you were close. Her ethereal touch creates a spark That fair and flawless skin glows even in the dark. But, beyond that beauty is her soul’s divinity She has this honest, childlike affinity. Her heavenly soul reveals another face It embellishes her beaut...
